Are the StrataFrame assemblies in the GAC (c:\windows\assembly)?
|
By Mark - 4/2/2008
Yeah they are. Check out the zipped word doc with some screen shots of pertinent folders.

Sorry...didn't scroll down. It looks like you are missing your license file folder:There should be a folder under the StrataFrame folder called License. The file in that folder should be the license file and it should be named "Microfour License.dll" with a space, not an underscore.

I have it in C:\program files\microfour\strataframe\license and the activation manager says it's activated. From: Taylor, Jay [mailto:wjtaylor@micro4.com] Sent: Wednesday, April 02, 2008 11:05 AM To: Mark Wiggins Subject: RE: request activation Mark: You should have received a manual activation license file. To activate: Either copy the license file to: C:\program files\microfour\strataframe\license Or go through the activation wizard and do the manual activation and select the license file. Sometimes, when downloaded, then file name gets changed, so be sure that the file name is “MicroFour License.dll”

Regardless of what the wizard said, I don't think your activated. I am the one who provided that information to Jay and created your license file. This is why online is always better...fewer issues and it removes the human element. It is entirely possible that your license file is wrong. To prove this, run the activate program manually. It will indicate whether or not the license file is valid:C:\program files\MicroFour\StrataFrame\activate.exe

The problem with an Add-In is that virtually anything else in the environment can cause a problem. So let's remove the connection files, if they exist, and see if the ConnectionStringWizard even pops up. So this way we will know if you are dealing with a data issue. If you are running Vista, they will be in the ProgramData folder:C:\ProgramData\MicroFour\ConnectionData Otherwise, if you are on XP it will be in the common application folder which was in the Documents and Settings folder in XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\AppData\MicroFour\ConnectionData or something along those lines. There should be two files: AppKeys.dat Connections.dat Delete them both then go back into VS. Also, what version of VS are you running? From the file you attached it looked like VS2005, but I just want to clarify. Are you running a full version of VS or an Express version?

I get the same error message after deleting those files. I'm running full pro version 2005.

Leave the license file alone and uninstall SF and re-install. It will leave the license file alone. If that doesn't work then the only other thing to do is a screen sharing session...you will see that other people have run into this before, but if it isn't one of the things that we have gone through, it is generally something else in the environment (possibly permissions) causing the problem. Which brings up a good point, do you have Adminsitrative permissions on your computer?

I just did what you suggested with the uninstall and reinstall right before I posted. I do have full admin rights. Can we setup a time tomorrow?thanks for your help, Mark

Apparently you didn't get my PM the other day I never heard back from you so that is why I did not post here on this thread again.Ignore the error for a minute and let's see if you can open one of the sample projects and compile it. Next, let's see if you have a StrataFrame database on the server that you choose to install. You can open the log files in the c:\program files\common files\MicroFour\StrataFrame folder. They will be called StrataFrame_Results.log and StrataFrameSample_Results.log Let's look to see if there were any errors. I know that you have something in your environment that is causing the issue, and since we have tried all of the stuff that generally causes this issue we can start to dig around.

I compiled and ran the multicolumn combo sample with success. I see both StrataFrame and StrataFrameSample databases on my sql server. Attached is the log.

Mark,It doesn't happen very often, but I missed this post. Sorry Just so that we might be able to move time to the left here...do you have another machine, test or otherwise, that you can load SF on so that we can see if you have the same issue? When you get this error, and we have catches everywhere, VS DTE likes to snuff the errors, so it is difficult to troubleshoot. But the issue isn't always an SF issue and other plug-ins can have an affect on what happens since we are tying into the VS IDE. This might help us figure out what is cropping up in this environment.

I installed VS 2005 and Strataframe on a new test machine. I used the same "MicroFour License.dll" file as on my other machine. It took the file and said it was sucessfully activated, but when I started VS I got a string of errors, see attached.thanks, Mark

Sorry, I just realized I needed a new license file. I sent Jay the info via email, wasn't sure how to contact you directly.thanks, Mark
|
By Trent L. Taylor - 4/15/2008
Yeah, the license file is tied to the MAC address so it would require another license. If you just go into the license activation client there is a link for a manual activation and it will appear at the proper location so we can get you the file.

I have sent you the license file via email.
