Visual SourceSafe Question

I made some code changes to an app at at a remote location last night. I was on their PC, so I wasn’t connected to our VSS database. I only changed about 4 lines of code, so I can make those changes here at the office again – no problem.

My question is, what if I had made a ton of changes and wanted to bring them here and ‘synchronize’ the 2 versions? Is that possible with VSS?

Thanks for any input/enlightenment

The easiest thing when using VSS in this situation is to just get a copy of the source file you made changes to...copy it to you development machine that has access...check the file out and then back in.  This will post the new file rather than the original.

The best solution by far is moving to Team Foundation where you can connect using a software VPN (or hardware) and make ths changes real-time.  I have been on a trade show floor before, made changes through a software VPN on my laptop, and the updates are already in the source control and I never have to think about it again.  Food for thought Smile

Thanks for the advice Trent.

I will keep the technique you laid out in the back of my mind. In the meantime, I'll write my friend at the North Pole about TFS this winter.
