Installation problems

I'm finally getting around to installing the 1.5.1 update from 11/20/06. I deactivate my current strataframe, uninstall it and start the installation.

During installation, I received an error that vfp8r.dll couldn't be registered. I try continueing. It then prompted for a database connection, I click the down arrow in the combo for server and it throws an unhandled exception. When I close out of that, it was trying to install the strataframe dbs (bad, I don't want to loose any of the work I've done!). So, how do I resolve this issue and how do I have it NOT install the strataframe db.

I just tried a reinstall. I still get the vfp8r.dll registration message. I think the other issue occurs if you select sql server user and then click on the drop down (with no user or password).

Also, if I pick a sql server with a StrataFrame database already existing, will it install over it?

No, if you choose an existing StrataFrame database, the install will update the structure of the tables to the current version.  As for why the vfp8r.dll won't register, I'm not sure.  That is a Microsoft VFP runtime DLL that is used by the DDT when importing VFP databases.  It's generally located within the C:\Windows\System32\ folder, so you might check there, and if there is already one there, delete it.

As for the exception you're getting when you drop-down the server selection combo, what is it?  It's most likely unrelated to the vfp8r.dll issue, and the exception details might help.

OK, I uninstalled and reinstalled again, both so I could make sure the tables where updated and to get the error screen capture. I realized afterwards that I should have clicked on the details button. Blink Hopefully this will be of some help.

The details would be nice, but that window shows some relevant information in that "Background Worker" message.  Thanks.

When next I install, I try to repro again and remember to get the details.

Apparently SF is the only thing that needs the vfp8r.dll, as it is gone when SF is uninstalled. Fortunately, I have no VFP dbs to import, so impact on me will be none BigGrin
