By Ivan George Borges - 3/14/2007

Hi everybody.

Just to know who I'm going to meet in Amarillo for the training classes in May.

Are you going to be there? Arrow

By Trent L. Taylor - 3/14/2007

Hey Ivan,

I am going to be there BigGrin

By Greg McGuffey - 3/14/2007

How do I get info on this class? Er...could I get some info? BigGrin

I'd love to be there (and bring some co-workers too).

By Trent L. Taylor - 3/15/2007

You can contact our sales division if you want to have a direct converstaion about the class.  But here is a link that basically covers the email we sent out http://www.strataframe.net/newsarticle.aspx?newsarticle=4 .  I can post the 3 day curriculum out here if you would like...but this will be expanded quite a bit for the 5 day class as we plan to cover much more detail since we have two additional days.

Will do

... covers the email we sent out

Shouldn't I be getting these emails, as a paid user? I didn't. Which email is it sent to? My account email is good, my forum email is currently under the weather Sick

I have the 3 day curriculum from the class in Dec.

I'm assuming that the class will be useful to someone who has been developing in SF for a while (by then I'll have been developing for something like 6 months).

By Trent L. Taylor - 3/15/2007

We will send out the email again soon with more detail.  But if you want to know which email address it went to it would be the same that you use when logging into the My Account area of the website.  So if you did not get it you might check your junk mail.

The class is definitely helpful for developers of all ranges from beginner to advanced.  So yes, it would definitely be a more than worthwhile investment!!!

P.S.  I will add "in a glass" to your account profile Wink

By Trent L. Taylor - 3/15/2007

FYI...I just resent the email to your account only, so you should be getting the email any time.
By Greg McGuffey - 3/15/2007

I am glad I noticed this Post email was hiding in JUNK. I am going to try to make it I have to re-arrange a fishing trip to the Keys Sad so I hope it is worth it. Also what hotel do you recommend so I can get a total cost for the purchase order
By Trent L. Taylor - 3/15/2007

Hey Paul,

We would love to have you down...it is definitely worth it....I guess this means I will have to buy you a beer too since you will be missing a fishing trip BigGrin !!  Boy, Ivan is going to cost me a fortune from his little statements above Wink

You can see some of our recommended hotels in the news article off of the home page: http://www.strataframe.net/newsarticle.aspx?newsarticle=4

Go to the very bottom to see hotels.  There are a lot more than what we have posted, but these are all very close to our offices.

By Paul Chase - 3/15/2007

Thanks Trent

It's pretty sad to trade a fishing trip for training..but I do respond well to free beer Wink and I can go fishing anytime . I will try to get everything approved etc and barring any unforseen problems should see ya in May. Keep up the good work IvanBigGrin

Hi Keith.

Yes, I wish I had a boss to flip for that too!

This is going to be 5 days!!! Promissing, isn't it? (And someone mentioned there would be free beer, just between the two of us)

By Chan - 3/20/2007

Hi,

Any plan to have online training class? I just back from US. Therefore, I don't think I would able to make it in May again.

Thank you

By Trent L. Taylor - 3/20/2007

Hey Chan,

It is unfortunate that you may not be able to come to the class.  We would love to see you here!  As far as an online training class is concerned, we do not have any plans at the moment.  I know that there will definitely not be anything before the May class.  We have discussed the online training and have had some requests.  But many of the major benefits of training are lost in an online session.

We really enjoy getting to know our users.  Also, when a training session takes place in a class room setting, more information is covered and more dialog and interaction takes place and as a result more information is retained and gathered through the class.

I do understand how an online class could benefit a number of people and it is definitely not out of the question in the future.  But at the moment there are no plans.

By Ben Hayat - 3/27/2007

Well, I read somewhere that Trent is providing Beer as one of the beverages during the day. I think that by itself is worth going to the class. I'm going...

Guys, let's fill up this class fast, before it gets filled up with real Beer drinkers!

By Keith Chisarik - 3/28/2007

Is the May training class essentially the three day class with stuff added?

I attended in August and am wondering if there would be a benefit for me in attending.

Is this a new/advanced course or the same one just extended.

If it is the same course with 2 days added, can I attend just the added two days that will cover curriculum I haven't seen?

By Trent L. Taylor - 3/28/2007

It will cover the stuff from the original class but the curriculum has changed, even over the original 3-day class to some extent.  Additionally, we will be able to cover more advanced topics and other areas such as Enterpirse Server, in depth Role-Based Security (much more than you were exposed to when you attended), advanced BrowseDialog techniques, XML as BO data sources, etc.  It would definiltey benefit you more now than ever since you have had quite a bit of hands on experience since then.

As for coming for just the material that was not in the first class, this really isn't an option because it will be interjected all throughout the course.

We would definitely enjoy having you back down this way!!!

By Ben Hayat - 3/28/2007

Keith, don't forget, as it was stated in previous posts, Free Beer is "On" Trent! Smile
By Trent L. Taylor - 3/28/2007

Okay....I give.  Thanks, Ivan BigGrin .  If you gentlemen (or ladies) make it to training I will spring for the beer Wink

I thought I share some info with those who are planning to attend class:

a) Do NOT delay your air line ticket. Four days ago my round trip thicket was $260 and last night when I checked again, jumped up to $575. Now I had to buy the ticket departing from another airport that is about 120 miles away. Get your ticket early.

b) I learned a magical number. 7-days trip. If you book your ticket, car and hotel for seven days, is much cheaper than 6 days. Since you get charged by weekly, rather daily.

c) National rental car, seem to have best rates.

d) Quality Inn. closest to MicroFour facility seem have the best rates for weekly.

Hope these help and see you at Beer party
By Greg McGuffey - 3/29/2007

Thanks for the info Ben. I'm currently working with my boss to get the $$ to come.
By Ben Hayat - 3/29/2007

Greg McGuffey (03/29/2007)
Thanks for the info Ben. I'm currently working with my boss to get the $$ to come.

Hey Greg, hope you can make it. Explain to your boss the simple truth: "It will cost him more, if you have to figure everything out". [No disrespect to you]

As a self employed programmer (I have to pay the training cost and I don't make any income while I'm taking the course), it was even harder for me to convince myself. After listening to a few Trent's videos and readings, Ben Chase's support, I strongly believe this training class is a good "investment". Perhaps, let you boss see some videos on BO and see how important it is to master this section, then his money spent, will save you lots of time.

Just a thought!
By Ivan George Borges - 3/29/2007

Hey Ben.

It looks like this time you forgot to state the real reason we are meeting there... Hehe

Actually Ivan, in the last post about the air line and hotel, I concluded, hoping to see everyone at the "Beer Party", but when I was responding to Greg, I didn't want his boss, to think that we're only coming here to drink Beer (even though that's the real reason). So hopefully we'll get to see Greg.

But I really want to watch how you're going to get Beer "On" Trent...Laugh

Tell us the truth! Was it the "Free Beer" that made you decide?
By Teddy Jensen - 4/18/2007

Ben,

What can I say.  It's always nice with free beer.Satisfied

But hopefully the class will give some good undertanding in using the framework, role based security and more.

And besides that, i'm looking forward to meet some of your guys from the forum and hear about your experience with StrataFrame.

By Ben Hayat - 4/19/2007

Teddy, I'll be there too. I sent a PM yesterday to Ivan to see for those of us who get there on Saturday, perhaps on Sunday morning we can get together and do some site seeing. I'll get there on Sat, mid day and I'm staying at Quality Inn.

Anyone else who likes to join, please add your comments in this thread and we can arrange the location and time.
By Teddy Jensen - 4/19/2007

I'll get there on Saturday late evening, arriving at the airport 10 pm from Dallas. I am staying at La Quinta Inn for the week.

Sightseeing Sunday sounds like a good idea.

For those of you who are looking to do some sight seeing, you are going to want to visit the Palo Duro Canyon.  It is the second largest canyon in the USA behind the Grand Canyon in Arizona.  It is a lot of fun down there and you can't come to Amarillo and miss seeing the PDC!

Thanks Ben; Bob had also mentioned it too. So, those who arrive on Sat, can get up early on Sunday and make a trip there. Ben why don't you and Trent and other SF gang join us? It's better to go with someone who knows the way around!
By Trent L. Taylor - 4/19/2007

Ben why don't you and Trent and other SF gang join us?

Though that would be a lot of fun, I don't know that I will be able to make it.  As I am sure that you know I work a lot and any spare time that I get I spend with my family.  Since I will be gone a lot during the week and I work many weekends as well, my time with my family is extremely valuable and I don't dip into that time easily.  I am sure that you understand.  But I will be sure to set aside some time during the week to go to dinner and get to know you guys....I promise! Bring the family too, Let's all have a nice Sunday together and share the moments. Talk it among yourselves, your Dad and others and see if it can work out for you. It's not like we see you guys every month, (unless version 2.x, requires another trip Smile). Anyway, hope you can make it...
