1.4 Help File Incomplete

http://forum.strataframe.net/Topic885.aspx

By Kevin Brown - 4/21/2006

I have downloaded the new release and completed the install of the framework.  The new help file contains the structure but none of the sections have any information.  Can you re-post the help files?

Thanks..Kevin

Hi!

It's the same with my help file. You are not alone BigGrin!

When you say that none of the topics are available, do you mean none (like zero) w00t ?  There are a few topics that are currently place holders that will be filled with the content of that topic over the next couple of weeks.

I just downloaded the doc on an external computer and have not reproduced the problem yet Sad.  Is there any content in the licenseing overview as shown below on your computers?

By Kari Paukku - 4/21/2006

Hi,

I have the same problem and there is no "Licesing..." page displayd. I downloaded the help file also into an other pc, but the result was the same.

Cheers,

Kari

ps. I also installed the SF v1.4. Is it meaning that the previous version needs to be first unistalled separately? The installation went ok after that.

Hi,

would this be of any help? This is the first thing that displays when one opens the help file. (Picture attached)

Cheers,

Kari

I have experienced the same thing.  Every topic that I clicked upon resulted in the following message being displayed.

Click the  Refresh button, or try again later.

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.

To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The settings should match those provided by your local area network (LAN) administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
See if your Internet connection settings are being detected. You can set Microsoft Windows to examine your network and automatically discover network connection settings (if your network administrator has enabled this setting).
Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.
On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings.
Select Automatically detect settings, and then click OK.
Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have installed.

Cannot find server or DNS Error
Internet Explorer

This was on my Dell XPS M170 Laptop running Microsoft Server 2003.  I then downloaded the files again onto my Dell Workstation Dimension 8400 and got the same problem.  On both of these machines I was getting a warning message that stated the publisher could not be verified and did I want to see this message again.  If I checked yes, that I wanted to see the message again, the same problems that occurred on the laptop occurred on the workstation.  When I selected no, I do not want to see the message again, the help file displayed with no problems and all of the information was visible.  Unfortunately, I still cannot get the information to display on the Server/Laptop machine (where I need it most).

Undoubtedly the content is present in the .chm files, but, there is some setting within Explorer or the OS that is wrong on my laptop.

Thanks for all of the details.  We are looking into it as we speak and will let you know when we post the new help file.  Thanks!

I have recompiled the .chm file with some different options and using a different help compiler. It is available for download, now, so give the new version a try. Thanks everyone.

Kevin,

Thanks.  We will try again Unsure.  We have migrated our documentation over to a new product so that is where some of the compilation issues are coming from.  I do not know the difference between my computer and yours, but I am going to try to find a computer that I can reproduce this on so we can get to the bottom of it.  Thanks for you patience and understanding.

The thanks goes to Paul (or Nikki) on this one!  They are the ones that figured it out!  Good job Paul!
By Paul Chase - 4/23/2006

Glad I could help on that one, I ran into this issue awhile back. I just got lucky and happened to notice it happened right after XP security update so was able to put the blame on MS. Smile

This is Paul. Nikki's my wife she downloaded and set everything up for me to try this out. Well after using it I decided to buy it and set up my own account Smile

By Trent L. Taylor - 4/23/2006

Well that makes perfect sense BigGrin.  That's cool that you and your wife can develop together.  You guys are a sharp team!  We are glad to have you as part of the StrataFrame community!

Smile  That did the trick.  Sorry for all the confusion.  Glad to know I was not alone.  Great response and follow through.  I appreciate it.

Actually I am glad you posted since you were not the only person running into this issue.  That is why the forum is here!  At any rate, I am glad you are up and running Smile
