Tryal copy installer error

the installation treminate with error :

Could not find file 'C:\Documents and Settings\mainuser\Dati applicazioni\Microsoft\MSEnvShared\Addins\StrataFrame.AddIn'.

I try on 3 different workstation....but same error !:angry:

I Use

WINDOWS XP PRO (with lasted Updates)
FRAMEWORK 1.1 AND 2.0
VISUAL STUDIO 2003 (AND/OR 2005)

Please, someone know where is the problem ?

Amos,

OK, I have a couple of versions of Windows XP (Italian) installed, and StrataFrame installs fine on all of them. So, I modified the install to continue if the FileNotFoundException is thrown, and then, after the install, you will be able to put the .AddIn file into its directory manually.

The only version of Windows XP (Italian) that I have not tried is the Windows XP "N" version that was made specifically for European Union countries that removes the Windows Media Player and other components from the operating system. If you have that version installed, I'll give it a try next, but the install I'm going to post today will let you get it installed.

Well, I have no idea what could be causing it, so I'll get the Italian version of Windows XP installed on my virtual machine and debug through the problem... nothing else is obvious.

After my last failed try on Windows Server 2003 R2 (English), I suppose that isen't a Italian version of OS.

If I doscover something, I will write.

Well, honestly, those aren't the results I was expecting. I didn't know that "Documents and Settings" was Italian. I figured that the reason the installation broke was that the method we were using to retrieve the path was not returning the proper value (figured it was "Documenti e Regolazioni" or something similar).

Do you actually have a C:\Documents and Settings\? Because according to that little program you do...

Amos,

Could you run this little application and post a screen shot of the message box that comes up? It will give me the path to some special folders on your computer and should give me a clue as to what's going on.

You will need to extract the .exe before you can run it. And you will need to have .NET 2.0 installed (which should be if you already have Visual Studio installed).

I have a virtual system installed now, so I should be able to test the installation of StrataFrame on an Italian version of Windows XP SP2.

Thanks, Amos, for that information; it helps target where the problem is coming from. I'll take a look and see if I can't figure out what's causing it. I might post a few more questions for you out here, and have you try some code samples to see what values are returned, folder names, etc.

Hi Ben,thanks for replay,
the progress bar are completed, the installer ask me the "MicroFour StrataFrame License.dll" file , I load license file corettly but after BOUT 2 seconds the inseller show the error message.

After the error message the installer display a second dialog that inform about this error; it says (concept) :
an error are occurred , the installatioN are made bUt is not fully-functional.
After thi message,instead, the installation roll-bak.

Tell me if you need more information.
I think is possible exec installer with log option actived.

I think the problem may be riconducibile at the italian version of the Operating system.

Amos,

Are you getting this error message when you are installing? Where in the installation does it crash? Are you getting to the progress dialog that says: "Deploying Databases", "Installing Templates", "Deploying Data", etc?

Does the installation rollback when you receive the error?

I'll take a look at the code and see where this error might be throw from.
