Well - I uninstalled everything and reinstalled it and the trouble disappeared so it's anybody's guess what ti was.

What projects do you have in your solution?  One of the projects does not support the code model, so chances are it's a special project, like a data project, or a setup project.

1.4.1b - just tried to launch mapper from VS2005 got the follwoing:

NotImplementedException

   The method or operation is not implemented.
