I have a development machine with VS2005, VS2008 and SQL2005. I would like to uninstall VS2005 to reclaim drive space but have heard that bad things can happen?

Can I un-install VS2005 without serious collateral damage?

I don't see any issue with doing that. In a worst case scenario, you may have to reload VS2008 back. But this should be more than doable.

If it were me I would rather buy a bigger hard drive and image my old one to it than uninstall. I have just seen too many instances in the last 6 months where a change to my development environment hosed some small (but important) underpining of either VS, .NET frameowork, registry, third party controls, etc.

My 2 cents.

Hi Michael,

I removed VS2005 prior to installing VS 2008 and did not have any issues with that, and later I did the same with MSSQL2005 before installing MSSQL2008.
