1.7.1 is currently installed. I also have a SF Winform project using Infragistics 2010 Volumn 2 which I have to maintain. I want to install Infragistics 2010 Volume 3 on the same development machine that I need to support the project created with SF 1.7.1 also Infragistics Volumn 2. This project also uses the SF Infrag Wrapper which references IG 2010 Volume 2.

I was told by a colleage that if I install Infragistics 2010 Volume 3 that SF in regards to the project created that references Volume 2 will no longer run because during Infragistics install it overwrites the DLLs in the GAC and that SF looks to the GAC first rather than what is actually referenced in the project.

To save me some grief here, I wanted to get the answer before actually installing IG Volume 3 to run side by side with Volume 2.

Thanks.

Hi Ross. I assume you CANNOT upgrade your solution to the new Infragistics version, right? Because if you can, you could change the references into the SF Infragistics solution to the new version too and recompile it. This would put everybody into version 3.

If not, I think you could try and keep the Infragistics old DLLs somewhere else and then go to the SF Infragistics solution and change the references to get the version 2 from that place where you kept them. And then, again, recompile it.

Ross,

You can have multiple versions of Infragistics NetAdvantage on the same machine, but only one version may be used with StrataFrame (you probably could have multiple versions but that would require multiple versions of the Infragistics Wrapper). On my Windows 7 system I have SF v1.7.3.1 using NetAdvantage 2010 vol 2 for the wrapper. I also have NetAdvantage 2010 vol 3 on the same system so I can see wha'ts new before upgrading the SF wrapper.

Installing vol 3 will overwrite the Infragistics toolbox tab in Visual Studio (I'm using VS2010) so only the vol 3 controls are visibile in the toolbox but both versions exist in the GAC, so SF is happy. The vol 3 install also removed the StrataFrame Infragistics toolbox tab so I had to rerun the Create StrataFrame Toolbox Tab from the VS StrataFrame menu to re-add the StrataFrame Infragistics controls.
