| For those web only apps, where the app is hosted somewhere remote from client, how does client create users, roles, permissions and etc.? Is there a web version of "Security Editor"? And what if the user does not want to buy ES just to connect to remote database for managing users on the hosting machine?

| Ok, after digging more, I did find a reference in help about creating users for the web:
Maintenance Forms
No user, role, or restriction set maintenance forms are available for web projects. Therefore, all users, roles, and selected permissions must either be set using the SecurityDialog in a windows form, or must be set via custom forms created within your web project to maintain user permissions and roles.
Case A) As mentioned before, if the database is hosted remotely (with web server), and the user doesn't mind using the Windows version of "Security Editor", how can he access the remote database if he doesn't have the Enterprise Server? Can SF offer a "one User" SE for this case?
Case B) For us to re-write custom web form to accomplish what the Window version does, requires a good understanding of the inner parts of this system. And that takes time and that was the reason for buying the security system to save time. Why can't we have web form version similar to what ASP.Net offers for their security system, where you can maintain users and permission via web forms?

If you are hosting remotely, and depending upon you hosting services, you can RDP into the remote server or just connect to that server using an SQL connection. In some cases you can also setup a software VPN for some hosting services as well which would also solve the problem of connecting to the database. Can SF offer a "one User" SE for this case? No, this will not likely ever be an option. Why can't we have web form version similar to what ASP.Net offers for their security system, where you can maintain users and permission via web forms?
Doing this requires two code bases and something that has been discussed in great length within development meetings. There is an incredible amount of code in the security editor and to port this over for web would far exceed its use. If this were a tool that you lived within it would be one thing, but this is ONLY used for initial and setup purposes. |

Ok, I think either using a direct SQL connection or Terminal service, might be the cleanest way of doing so. I'll discuss it with him!
