License Activation Error

http://forum.strataframe.net/Topic15382.aspx

Hi,

I am trying to activate my trial licence on Vista Ultimate 64bit with a wireless adapter. I get a disk space error (copied below) even though I have 45.8gb free.

Can you advise please? Also, your online store states the licence is per developer which normally suggests the developer can have the software installed on a main PC and notebook. However, your activation process appears to tie the licence to a specific machine. Is this correct? If so, does a developer who wants to install on two PCs have to buy two licences?

Thanks in advance,

Aaron

Aaron,

I am not sure why you are receiving a disk size error.  The only thing that would come to mind may be permissions.  We can send you a manual activation if you would like so that you can short circuit the error.

As for the licenses, we manage our licenses different than most people and allow you to activate and deactivate as many times as you like.  Additionally you can use an external USB network adapter as a "dongle" if you like.  Look here for more information: http://forum.strataframe.net/Topic41-16-1.aspx

Finally, if you get home one night and forgot your dongle then you can also manually deactivate on from the website.  So there are a number of ways to go about this.

Hi Trent,

That was a quick reply!!!

I just tried running the activation wizard as the Administrator with the same results. Please do send a manual file and I will give it a go.

That sounds perfect about the activation and deactivation.

Thanks again,

Aaron

Will you PM me your MAC address and computer name as well as your serial number or email address?  Thanks.

Okay PM just sent.

Thanks

Got it.  I sent you an activation file as well as an email with a ZIP attachment.  Let me know if you have any troubles. Smile

I manually copied the DLL in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\MicroFour\StrataFrame folder and VS2008 reported that I was not activated. I also ran the Activation Wizard and selected the DLL from your email and it then threw a permissions error (copied below).

I will try and play around with my permissions to see if it makes any difference but I am an Administrator for my PC.

Thanks for your help

Trent,

I just built a new super duper home system, and I am getting the same problem. I'm running Vista 64 as well.

By Edhy Rijo - 4/4/2008

Hi guys,

If you are running Vista 64, try the following steps:

  1. Disable the User Account Control (UAC) and Reboot.
  2. Try to activate SF.
  3. Enable the User Account Control (UAC) and Reboot if you want to use UAC.

I am running Vista Ultimate 64 and the only problem I had was with the Installation running part of the setup as 32 bit and putting some files in another location.

Hey guys....I have tested this several times on our Vista 64 environment and it seems to work like a charm...so I am sure that we may be dealing with a permissions issue or something along those lines.  I will investigate a little more, but I am sure something is going on since it has come up more than once in the last couple of days.

OK...this had absolutely nothing to do with StrataFrame, 64-bit, or anything else...we had a server issue, and the message it was giving you was 100% accurate!  I will save you the details, but due to an issue on the server there were 0 bytes free...not even enough space to create a temporary license file to send down the pipe!

All of those who have had trouble activating in the last day or two, you are good to go again!  Sorry Blush

Hi all,

Edhy's suggestion works for me! Thanks for the help Edhy and hello again Smile

For the record, here are the sequences I went through using the Licence Activation wizard with the following results:-

1. I tried activating by supplying my email address and password and got a disk space error message.

2. As above, I ran the wizard with the Vista elevated "Run as administrator" right with the same outcome.

3. I tried activating using the DLL Trent emailed and I received a permissions error.

4. As with point 3, I ran the wizard with "Run as administrator" and the wizard actually reported that activation was successful. However, it wasn't as SF later reported when I ran VS2008. Also, re-running the activation wizard again reported that I wasn't licenced on the initial screen. I tried this several times and on each occasion I was told activation was successful (and I rebooted the PC in between). However, it didn't work.

5. I followed Edhy's advice, turned off UAC, rebooted, run the wizard without admin rights, supplied email and password and it worked. Turned UAC back on, rebooted and I am now running Smile

It looks like the wizard needs to run with elevated administrator privileges. However, I think you need to make a mod to the wizard as manually elevating the rights isn't enough.

Thanks everyone for your help.

Aaron,

Actually I reproduced the problem, along with every other person who tried to activate BigGrin

I also testing this on a Vista 64 system once I had corrected the issue on the server and it worked with UAC on and off.  So the problem was actually on our activation server versus on the client side.  If ever you need to run with elevated permissions, you can always right click the executable and then click "Run-As" and run as an Admin if you have the need.

At any rate, I am glad that you got it going.

Hi Aaron,

Glad it worked by any mean.  I also had some problems at the beginning and that can be a bit frustrating, but as you can see here in SF the forum response are pretty much like we are used to in our VPM/VFP forums Tongue

I feel pretty good with the framework and more important with the level of support provided by the SF team which in my case has gone beyond the framework due to my current learning of VB.NET and the way of doing things now.

Hi Edhy,

VPM/VFP? I stopped using both several years ago. Glad to hear VPM is still going though. Can't imagine the VFP market is too good these days.

SF does look very good and the support has been much faster than I have experienced anywhere else.

Regards,

Aaron
