There are many ways to do master detail.  I'd start by looking into the use of the Listview and ChildFormDialog together. This allows you to have a list of children on the master form and then a very easy way to show a child form for more details/editing.  Start with the help file.

What errors are you getting when trying to run the samples?

The auditing feature of SF isn't completed yet. One of the things not completed is the documentation.
