Hi All,

Anybody has an experience with any commercial backup software for ms sql
2008?

I need to backup hundreds of GBs of 1 database and then the second database at least several times a day for transactions performed on it. I know the SF guys recommends this one: http://www.red-gate.com/products/sql_backup/index.htm

Please provide some feedback.

Thanks,

Doron

You can use the standard SQL backup and there are a lot of options here depending on whether you are running in SIMPLE or FULL transaction modes.  But we still recommend the one you specified:

We have been very pleased with this product.

Hi,

Yes I definately agree with Trent, the products from Red-Gate are quite superb and for anyone who hasn't taken a look at their memory profiler, I was on the beta and it completely opened my eyes to something I new very little about. It also revealed just how GOOD the SF code it. Smile

Going back to SQL Server, the SQL Toolbelt is definately worth taking a look at.

regards

Geoff.

Hi Geoff,

Some of their tools are great, but did you actually work with their sql backup tool?

Doron

Hi Doron,

I began using it when I was working at a bank here in the UK. I then took it and implemented it at the next bank I worked for. Overall I have used SQL Backup succesfully for about the last 9 years.

You won't be sorry, and both Trent and I will be proven correct.

best

Geoff
